It's a Wonderful Life

It wasnt snowing but it was pretty frosty and cold over Christmas. We had the heat set to 70 and Marcey was still under a blanket! Lexi didnt get left Home Alone but she did have trouble getting to sleep on Christmas Eve. We were monitoring Santa's journey and the stress of having to fall asleep before Santa actually got to California was a little too much for some to handle.
Here are the cousins unwrapping some of their gifts.
Here is the red section. Kurt and mom are the only ones who were festive enough to dress in red. I think Kurt wears a different jersey each year to our Christmas morning gathering.
Brotherly love. What would a brother be if he didnt pester the other one?! Donny is wearing the traditional hat worn by the person who hands out the gifts.

Tracking Santa 2006

For those of you anxiously awaiting Santa, you can track his flight via the NORAD site (North American Air Defense Command). Have you been naughty or nice this year??
http://www.noradsanta.org/en/tracking.php
NASA will also be tracking old St. Nick: http://liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/home/seasonal/SantaTrack.html

Pursuit of Happyness

This is a great holiday movie, or anytime of year really, to help you appreciate what you have and to inspire us all to do more to help others. It's the story of a father who takes a risk for a better future for his son. And, despite being homeless, being a single parent, and having no additional education and no money, he still pursues his dream with class and determination. Once you see this you will have a very hard time making excuses for why you can't do that something that you just never seem to have time for! This story is truly an inspiration.

Happy Holidays!?

I had Wolf and Lexi this weekend and we got to do some pretty fun stuff. We went to my friend Breanna's for a gingerbread house party and went to the Tech Museum. And of course we had to stop in to see Santa. I think the kids had fun although you'd never know it from these pictures. Do you think they could have smiled in one of them??! At least Wolf is faking it! See more pics here.

Loungin'

Here is my little muffin doing what kids do...lounging on the couch and playing a little Gameboy. Ah, that's the life.

Girls Just Want To Have Make-Overs

The holidays are here and there is nothing better than spending a day trying on make-up, shopping, and dining out with your friends! I got to do just that with Ann and Beth. They got make-overs at Bare Essentials and then we grabbed lunch at the Thirsty Bear. Hanging out in the city helps get you in the holiday mood. ( It was chilly (sarcasm) 70 degrees in December in SF. What's up with that??)

Bond, James Bond

I saw my first James Bond movie last night with Ann and Chris. Casino Royale with Daniel Craig.

I really liked it. Im not sure that human beings are capable of doing some of the things they do in the movie, but hey....it's just a movie! Daniel Craig played a great rookie Bond (he's been working out!) and there are a few classic lines. Overall I give it a thumbs up.

Enjoy!

Thanksgiving 2006

My sister in law, Stephanie, and I were clicking pictures like crazy on Thanksgiving and joking about who's going to blog their picture first. Hmm...I just checked her blog and no pictures yet! I swear she was following me around taking the same pictures I took ;)

The picture of this turkey might seem a little toasty but it was suppose to be that way since Kurt and Marcey BBQ'd it. It was delish!

We tried to take a family photo this year which came off pretty well I think. This picture shows the aftermath of it! Nice job Reuben Kincaid on the pics!

Who Can Turn The World On With Her Smile?...

I must be on some retro kick right now. I discovered The Complete 1st Season of the Mary Tyler Moore Show DVD at the library. I remember the show from when I was a kid but I wanted to see what it was like watching as an adult. I am hooked! How can you not love Lou, Mary, Rhoda, Murray, and Ted! It is really strange to watch something from 1970 and see how far we have come in terms of sexism, alcohol, etc. Mary is the Associate Producer of the WJM news and yet she still has to make the coffee and straighten Lou's desk up. We've come a long way baby! We're going to make it after all!

Secondary Malolactic Fermentation

Thanks to the O'Brien winetasting excursion this weekend I am adding to my weak wine vocabulary.

Have you seen this man?? Since Tom had to work, I was able to slip into his spot and enjoy a day of great wine and fun times with the O'Briens. Thanks for letting me join in. It was a "terrific" day!
We visited Chase, St. Clement and Sullivan and got a terrific private tour from the assistant winemaker of Spotswood, Aaron, who knows Chris and Donna.
Four winerys down...387 to go!

Howl-een

Another Halloween and not one Trick-or-Treater! Good thing though since I didn't have any candy in the house!

Here you can see my nephews "Napoleon" and "Denzel Crocker" (usually known as Bryce and Brett) fresh off the streets and loaded with candy. Bryce, you've got it down!
We checked out the patch at the Nut Tree last weekend. We ate a brick o'french fries and some other junk food, rode the hay ride wagon, and then picked out a pumpkin. Then we hit patch #2! There are just too many patches to pass up, right boys? They even got to go on an ATV ride. All in all a great day.

Weekend in Atlanta

Happy Birthday Bren!!

Brenda turned 30 on the 19th and I was lucky enough to be there to celebrate with her. I flew into Atlanta we had a great weekend hanging out. Friday we went to the Horseradish Grill for lunch. It was fantastic--charming building, friendly service, and a great selection of traditional Southern food. Yum! We didnt have room for dessert but the waiter brought a piece of their specialty cake to go anyway for Brenda's birthday. Now that is Southern hospitality!
Its a must if you ever go to Atlanta.I finally got to spend some quality time with little Ava Rose (you cant leave off the "Rose"). She is adorable like she was plucked out of a Shirley Temple movie. She is obviously European because she loves spicey olives, unique foods, and has the olive skin of an Italian--and those curls!
Brenda and Ed also had their friends Tim, Julie, Klaus and Deb over for dinner on Saturday. That was a fun time. They are a very warm and fun group.
I miss you all already!

QuinceaƱera

Claire was in her friend Mayra's Quinceanera earlier this Fall. Im just getting around to posting it. She and a group of their friends had all been practicing for months the dances that they had to perform. We arent sure if they were really learning dances or just using the practices as a chance to get their gang together every week. She looks just like a princess in her beautiful blue dress, doesnt she?!

6.3 on the Richter Scale

Just talked to Betsy in Hawaii to see if they were okay. There was a 6.3 earthquake there which knocked things off of shelves and really rattled the area. They are all fine and are just cleaning up some of the glass that broke. They said that land line phones are working but cell phones aren't right now. Glad everyone is okay! Guess you cant avoid earthquakes even if you do move out of California!

The A's vs. Detroit

Well, I went to the 2nd game in the playoffs between the A's and Detroit with a few of my co-workers.
It was a beautiful night with the exception of them losing and all. They were off to a great start 2-0 and then blew it despite a couple of homers by Milton Bradley (the baseball player not the game company!).
There was a plaque with my favorite all-time Raider, George Blanda, inside the colesium so of course I had to get my picture take with it!

Ooh La La...It's Beth's Birthday

Beth celebrated her birthday Friday. Happy Birthday Beth!
We started at Palomino for drinks and ended up at a super fun little French restaurant that Greg picked out on Lombard in SF. It was a great time with Beth and Greg, Beth's brother Tobin and Stacey, Ann and Chris and Claire, and me. Chris got the Escargo.

Greg ordered a pumpkin pie for Beth because it is her FAVORITE dessert. The pie was amazing looking but taste-wise it wasnt exactly like the American version. As Chris says, "They dont even have Pumpkins in France!"

The atmosphere, Blaise, good wine, and the company made for a fun night! (Will you ever turn 40 Beth??)

McDonny's

Say you have started working at McDonald's and you have the job down. Now a big group of family members shows up to check you out at your new job. Is that embarrassing? Here are the results of our informal survey:
Robin - Yes, I will not even go into the restaurant and embarrass my nephew.
Wendy - It is fine. We are just showing up like any other customer.
Steph - Donny can get up in front of a crowd at a talent show, I think he can handle some family members coming in to see him!
The Crew at Baskin Robbins (where we went after harrassing poor Donny) - 50/50 embarassing/not embarrassing
Now, when Donny (a.k.a. "John") was asked how he felt about the incident his response was, "I dont care". He even came over to Baskin-Robbins on his break (he brought his own McFlurry though). You were a true professional Donny and we are all super proud of you! All the cousins have a new name for McDonald's -- McDonny's! Bryce was even trying on the hat for size.

Brett's Walking Wonders

Well, thanks to so many family members and friends who contributed to the walk for a cure for Juvenile Diabetes, we were able to raise money towards a great cause--diabetes research. The Emigh and Riedel Crew (and Kelly the speed walker!) walked today and had a great time doing it! We started and ended at the State Capitol (no Arnold in site!). Brett and Lexi even sprayed their hair orange for the occasion. Congrats and Thanks to all of the walkers and donators!

You Scream, I Scream, We All Scream for...

ICE CREAM! Mitchell's in SF is sooooo good. We had an outing at work today and went there for lunch. That WAS our lunch actually. It is so good to be a grown up sometimes...you get to decide what you want to eat when! Yummy!

My Trip to D.C.

I just got back from visiting my one of my great friends, Laura, in Washington. It was really nice to hang out with Laura, Doug, Kate and Clare and participate in their fun and crazy life! Arent Clare and Kate adorable?!We went to the Reynolds Portrait Gallery where they have all of the presidential portraits, even the famous unfinished President Washington portrait. It is a must see. You can see Mary Todd and Abe Lincoln below (aka Clare and Laura). Here is the fam at the Art Faire we went to in Alexandria. Very cool old town with so much charm. Thanks for the fun times gang--miss you already!
